Extremely grateful to again be covering Cheyenne Frontier Days
10th July 2025
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to once again cover every aspect of the Daddy of 'em All for the 68,000 followers & readers of Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine. Kati & Levi at the magazine continue to be so supportive and gracious, and I can't thank my friends, family & all the volunteers at my hometown rodeo Cheyenne Frontier Days™ enough for everything.

To say this year has been tough would be an understatement, but you gotta cowboy up especially when shit gets tough.

The images of the rodeo action and a number of other events associated with this great western celebration can be found in the 2025 Cheyenne Frontier Days galleries on the 3H Rodeo website (https://www.3hrodeo.com/). I will also be sharing some of my articles on the website as well - I'm really looking forward to adding those this year!

I'd love it if you follow along at 3HRodeo.com as well as on the brand new 3H Photography-Images From Nature Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/3HPhotographyImagesFromNature), on the 3H Rodeo Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091835653165), and on the 3H Photography Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/3hphotography/). Excited to get back to Grand Teton National Park
18th May 2025
I'm extremely excited to get back to my Zen (Grand Teton National Park) as it has been too long since I've been out in the wild. May always marks the annual trip that my son, Hayden and I take to the Tetons to spend a week out in nature capturing what the wild has to offer, and it provides an opportunity for us to "just be" in God's creation. We talk about how it would be something to capture the smells & sounds to go along with the images from nature. The breeze blowing through the quakies brings an audible joy matched with a multitude of pleasant smells, and the quiet roar of the fast moving water as it flows down the mountain is such a calming and welcome visitor to the stillness of the timber. Moments of quiet contemplation and anticipation can be quickly and pleasantly interrupted by a beautiful creature that seems to just appear.

I will share all of my images in a special gallery here on the website as well as sharing them on my social media channels.

Peace my friends -

The passing of a legend - Grizzly #399 is dead.
23rd October 2024
Rest in peace Grizzly #399.

Grand Teton National Park's Grizzly #399, the famous grizzly bear sow who has delighted hordes of wildlife watchers for the better part of two decades, is dead. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday morning that the 28-year-old grizzly had been hit and killed by a car in the Snake River Canyon. What a sad day that has impacted millions across the globe.

I am grateful for the years I was able to spend watching her, learning her tendencies, understanding her behavior, and of course capturing her and her offspring through the lens. The "access" she allowed so many of us over the years was truly a gift.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about her passing although I knew the day would come that The Queen of the Tetons would no longer be roaming the sage and the forrest. What I am sure of is that she was a wild grizzly bear that lived in the wild and lived and survived by the rules of the wild. I also know that she became an ambassador for Grand Teton National Park and that thousands of people across the world are mourning her passing.

Grizzly #399:

  • You were a wild apex predator, although many connected with you on a very emotional level.

  • At times you exhibited how brutal the wild can be, but you also exhibited patience, acceptance, and wisdom.

  • Your life ended where you lived it - by the road. You knew the danger and the wisdom of living your life near the road, and you secured the safety of many of your offspring by doing so although you also suffered loss from it over the years.

  • You lived the life of a grizzly bear in a very public way, and you were a gift to all of us in many different ways.

  • You were and always will be the Queen of the Tetons.

May we let her rest in peace.

Please visit the Grizzly #399 gallery to see the signed & numbered limited editions offered from 3H Photography:

Excited for my upcoming shoot in Grand Teton
20th October 2024
I am very excited to get back to the timber and see what I can see. Grand Teton National Park is my Zen, and I eagerly anticipate every trip up North to spend time out in nature. 2024 has been an incredibly busy year for me in almost every way possible, but I am looking forward to some time out in nature to recharge my batteries.

Much of the state of Wyoming has been suffering from forrest fires with several large fires in northwestern Wyoming. Our prayers are with the landowners and the forrest fighters as well as with the wildlife that must evacuate the safety of their home. Hopefully, moisture is on the way to offer those fighting the fires a helping hand.

I look forward to sharing what I see here as well as on my social media channels. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or ordering one or more of the limited editions here on the website.

Cheyenne Frontier Days – A True Western Celebration
30th July 2024
Extremely excited to be covering every aspect of Cheyenne Frontier Days for Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine. Sharing the newest article submitted to the magazine right here, and pictures of this year's celebration can be found in the Cheyenne Frontier Days gallery as well as on Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine's social media channels, website, and print publications.

A cacophony of aromas fill the hot, thin air found at 6063 feet above sea level. From the damp dirt of the arena floor and the faint smell of hay to the wafting smell of warming corndogs and funnel cakes – it’s the first rodeo on the first Saturday of the Daddy of ‘em All. Cheyenne Frontier Days,™ the world’s largest outdoor rodeo & western celebration that happens annually during the last full week in July, offers10 days of far more for visitors than just pro rodeo action. Pull on your boots, grab your hat and saddle-up for some heart-pounding fun – CFD style.

Just a bit of history before we get started. Cheyenne held the first Frontier Days in 1897 which was a one-day cowboy roundup. Since its inception, Cheyenne Frontier Days™ has continued to grow and evolve into a complete western celebration. The 2024 edition of the Daddy of ‘em All will be the 128th, and you don’t want to miss one second of it.

Cheyenne Frontier Days™ officially kicks off with the first musical entertainment offering from Frontier Nights® on the first Friday of the celebration. It is true that when the sun goes down at CFD, the stars come out with some of the biggest music acts gracing the CFD stage. From Garth Brooks & Blake Shelton to Nelly & Post Malone, Frontier Nights® brings the heat and never disappoints.

Much of the CFD celebration happens at Frontier Park, an expansive complex made specifically for the Daddy of ‘em All. However, two long-lived events happen in historic downtown Cheyenne where the feel of the Old West is still alive. The Cheyenne Frontier Days™ parade is the largest horse-drawn parade in the country featuring floats, marching bands, riders in period dress, and classic cars. Equally as impressive as the parades are the Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfasts. Get up early and make your way downtown to take your place in the meandering line that ultimately leads to pancakes, ham, and coffee served at the historic Cheyenne depot. Downtown boasts a great deal of history and local shops that you’ll want to be sure to take in before heading back to “the park” for more official CFD action.

Back at Frontier Park, you have a number of options for shopping and entertainment prior to heading to the rodeo. Follow the identifiable songscapes of the Native American Pow Wow to what is known as the Indian Village which offers a historic view into Native American culture.

Now it’s rodeo time! Time to take in the centerpiece of the Daddy of ‘em All! One of the crown jewels of Pro Rodeo – just ask any rodeo cowboy or cowgirl and they will tell you that Cheyenne is always on the list of can’t miss rodeos. Winning Cheyenne, steeped in history as well as a big payday, is a pinnacle win for cowboys & cowgirls alike. As you make your way to the main gate, you hear to bustle of preparation just a few feet away on the other side of the fence. As you take your seat you can feel the energy buzz through one of pro rodeo’s largest arenas, and patriotism captures your senses as the national anthem booms through the speakers and the daily prayer is offered. Settle back and take it all in, that is if you can stay off the edge of your seat! As the broncs start bucking, you’ll be grabbed by not only the excitement of the event, but also by the speed at which everything happens. The CFD rodeo is known for many things, paramount among them is the efficiency by which it is run, which is even more impressive considering the size of the arena and the number of contestants. As the performance transitions from roughstock events to timed events and then back to roughstock, you’ll barely have the chance to catch your breath. Pages could be written describing the exciting action of each event, but suffice it to say that whether you’re a grizzled rodeo aficionado or a first timer, you will not be disappointed. As you exit the grandstands talking about the spectacle you just witnessed, you pour into the carnival midway where the fun continues.

Your day ends where the Daddy officially begins – with Frontier Nights®! Depending on the night you will either be in for a high energy concert from the biggest names in musical entertainment or on several evenings you will experience the excitement of the Professional Bull Riders Tour. By the time the curtain drops on your action-packed day at CFD, you will be exhausted from cheering, clapping, singing and dancing.

Whether you’re a Wyoming native or a tourist from around the globe you won’t be disappointed with your decision to spend a day or a week immersed in the western celebration known as Cheyenne Frontier Days.™ As they say in the rodeo game, the last full week in July is the time for you to Cowboy Up and come to CFD to Getcha Some!

Excited to be capturing the 2024 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo & Western Celebration

I am excited to again be on assignment for Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine capturing all the action at the 128th Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo & western celebration. Salt Wells Creek Wild Horses
04th June 2024
I had the good fortune to find a band of wild horses in the Salt Wells Creek area of Southwestern Wyoming several days ago. I've had this good fortune on 5 or 6 different occasions which I'm always grateful for considering this wild horse management area spans over a million acres. That's a lot of "management" area!

I invite you to check out the newly added "Salt Wells Creek Wild Horses" gallery. I love sharing what I see out in the wild, and I hope you can feel the wild through the pictures!

The images in the gallery will be named, signed, and numbered and are limited to 150.
Spring Shoot in Grand Teton a Huge Success
16th May 2024
We just returned from our annual Spring shoot in Grand Teton National Park, and we are so grateful for all that we were blessed to see. From sunsets and grizzlies to the elk migration and cinnamon phase black bears. Hayden and I were in the Tetons from May 5th through May 10th, and we spent the majority of every day out in the park seeing what we could see.

We were fortunate to photograph Grizzly 610 (famous grizzly sow and offspring of world famous Grizzly 399) and her 2.5 year old triplets the day before she "kicked" them out to begin their lives as adult grizzly bears. We also captured the great elk migration from the National Elk Refuge back to the high country that happens each Spring. Additionally, we captured images of several cinnamon phase black bears, a fox, a raven, and a number of sunsets.

Please check out the New Limited Editions gallery to see the newest pictures available as limited edition fine art prints (limited to 150).

3H Photography to Shoot March 19th Flying B Invitational FINALS
06th March 2022
Well, the February Flying B Invitational Series event didn’t disappoint, and we’re now moving towards the Flying B Series Finals on March 19th. Riata Ranch is a great facility here in Cheyenne, and although it was a little cold even in the arena, it was a great day of bull riding.

The Flying B Finals action kicks off at noon on March 19th at the Hansen Arena in Laramie, Wyoming. There will be two long rounds and then the short round, so there will be a lot of youth bull riding action happening in the Gem City. The top 5 in the standings after the long rounds will make it to the short round. Buckles and prizes will be awarded after the event, and the Youth Bull Riding (YBR) world finals team that the Flying B will take to Abilene in August will be announced.

Kelly & Brannon with the Flying B do it right, and the Flying B Invitational has become one of the prime events for youth bull riders. From calf riding all the way up to senior bull riding, the Flying B events span the spectrum of youth bull riding.

Come on out to the Hansen Arena in Laramie on Saturday, March 19th and see the future of bull riding in action. The Hansen Arena can be found at 306 WY-230 in Laramie, Wyoming.

Contestants & Family: I will be sharing the picture pricing sheet here as well as on the 3H Rodeo website (3HRodeo.com) and on our social media channels. I have several pre-order specials that have been shared on our social media channels, and I will post those specials on the 3H Rodeo website. Additionally, every person that orders pictures will be entered into the drawing for a free picture package. Sample images from each ride will be shared on the 3HRodeo website in the 2022 Flying B Invitational Finals March Event Gallery.

Best of luck cowboys & cowgirls – See you out there!
3H Photography to Shoot February 12th Flying B Invitational
07th February 2022
I am happy to finally be getting back in the arena and behind the lens, and it’s always a treat to get to shoot the Flying B events. Unfortunately I missed the show in Sheridan on January 1st, but I’m primed to capture both rounds of action on February 12th at the Riata Ranch Events Center here in Cheyenne. I will also be shooting the Flying B Invitational two round event on March 12th to close out their winter series, and that event will also be at Riata Ranch.

Kelly & Brannon with the Flying B do it right, and the Flying B Invitational has become one of the prime events for youth bull riders. From calf riding all the way up to senior bull riding, the Flying B events span the spectrum of youth bull riding. The action on February 12th gets underway at 11:00 am with the second round getting underway after a brief intermission. Come on out this coming Saturday and see the future of bull riding in action. Riata Ranch can be found at 822 Arena Lane – just east of Cheyenne.

Sample images from each ride will be shared on the 3HRodeo website in the 2022 February Flying B Invitational Gallery.

Best of luck cowboys – See you out there!
